20MnCr5 is a low-carbon, low-alloying case-hardening steel with a number of properties, including:

• Hardening: 20MnCr5 has good hardenability and high surface hardness after hardening, which results in good wear resistance 
• Ductility and fatigue strength: The small grain size of 20MnCr5 contributes to good ductility and fatigue strength 
• Weldability: 20MnCr5 has excellent weldability, but care should be taken to avoid weld cracking 
• Machinability: 20MnCr5 has a machinability of approximately 80% that of mild steel

• Hardness:In the as-rolled condition, it has a maximum hardness of around 255 HB. After proper heat treatment, the surface can achieve very high levels of hardness.
